Two Islamic extremists have been arrested in France for allegedly plotting to massacre a Kindergarten full of children.
The two men, both 20 years old, were apprehended on 25th March in Seine-et-Marneand and subsequently charged by the Paris prosecutor for plotting to kill children and police officers.
One of the two men involved is said to have been known to the General Directorate of Homeland Security (DGSI), France’s internal intelligence agency.
It has been reported that the known man, who is considered the mastermind behind the plot, openly admitted to police officers that he wanted to enter the Kindergarten and murder children and take some of them hostage, then once police officers arrive he would then attempt to kill them also.
The suspect was also infatuated with terrorist Mohamed Merah and spoke highly of the murderer who was behind the Toulouse and Montauban shootings which targeted French soldiers, teachers and children at a Jewish school back in 2012.
A source close to the investigation also told broadcaster RTL that the chief suspect in the plot has “very strong psychiatric instability”, as well as signs of depression, narcissism, and suicidal tendencies.
He had been under observation of the General Directorate of Homeland Security since 2015 after he had become increasingly close to the radical jihadist movement, with police finally moving in to arrest him after he made it known he was on the hunt for weapons.
The arrest is just the latest terror plot to be foiled in France. Last October, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said that authorities had managed to thwart five major terror attacks in 2018 alone.
