Trump shocks Hong Kong by signing bill in support of protests

by Avi Yemini

US President Donald Trump has signed into law a bill that supports pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

This comes as protesters spent the week begging Trump to “sign the Bill”.

The now signed “Human Rights and Democracy” bill will impose sanctions on Chinese officials responsible for cracking down on pro-democracy protesters.

Hours before the announcement, I asked protesters what they thought about Trump’s comments in support of their protests but stating that he has faith in Beijing to resolve the situation.

What became clear is Hongkongers love the President but did not believe he would sign the bill due to the trade deal with China.

Legislator, Audrey EU told TR News she believed that Mr Trump was “playing both hands and trying to extract the most from the trade deal with China”.

However, the President has demonstrated that he is always willing to do what is right, no matter the cost.

Donald Trump has today given Hong Kong hope.
