Macron clear on ‘NO DEAL’ Brexit

France’s President Macron has, in a pellucid tone stated today if MPs reject Theresa May’s deal for a third time it WILL lead to a No Deal Brexit.

Speaking directly to reporters at the summit in Brussels today, Macron said “In case of no vote or no. I mean directly, it will guide everybody to a No Deal, for sure. This is it, we are ready.”

“We have to be clear, we can discuss and agree an extension if its a technical extension in case of a yes vote on the agreement we negotiated on two years.

Theresa May  is asking the EU for delay to Brexit until 30 June in order to allow time to pass the necessary withdrawal legislation should she get her deal through the Commons next week.

Speaking to reporters at the summit May said: “I am here today to discuss with fellow leaders a short extension of article 50 until the end of June.

“As I said yesterday, this delay is of personal regret to me. But a short extension would give parliament the time to make a final choice that delivers on the result of the referendum.”

Macron did not seem to echo the same sentiment of such a scenario saying he needed to see “a clear majority” for a different mandate.

“No extension either if there is not a clear majority to give a mandate on the future relationship,” he said. “We must respect the will of the British people, but also the European project. European leaders understand and respect the will of the British people, but we defend the interests of our own people.

“We are ready for Brexit. France didn’t choose this, the British people did. We can feel sorry about it, but we have had time to prepare for it, legally and technically. The European project must continue and must be stronger.”

The saga continues……..
