Today Hongkongers are exercising their very limited right to vote for their local district councils. Even though elected council members hold minimal power, Hong Kong voting rate is at a historic high.
Pro-democracy protesters see this election as a referendum, demonstrating the will of Hong Kong.
WATCH what happened when I interviewed two opposing candidates running for the same seat.
The candidates:
- Andrew Chiu is the incumbent pro-democracy candidate who was recently attacked by a “Mandarin-speaking” man on the street, resulting in losing his ear.
- Kacee Ting, who was recently filmed intimidating pro-democracy citizens.
Election results are expected later tonight.
