China has begun rallying support from its allies after passing controversial ‘national security’ law. The list of countries supporting China are either very poor, very Communist or very Muslim.
China Unleashed
In an attempt to shut-down the protests in Hong-Kong, the Chinese government has introduced harsh new legislation. Although their response to the protests has already been brutal, the new law will take it to a whole new level.
Firstly, it includes a whole range of new offences that carry lengthy jail sentences. Some will even get you life in prison.
Secondly, the wording of the new legislation legally gives China the chance to prosecute any opposition. For instance, the first arrest under the new law was someone holding a ‘free Hong-Kong’ flag.
Aside from the new crimes, the law also allows for trials to be done in secret with no juries. Only judges picked explicitly by the CCP.
All in all, these new measures will ensure no more dissent, and eventually, Hong-Kong will fall silent.
Supporting The Devil
Countries around the world have strongly condemned China for the new approach. The US has placed sanctions, and the UK has offered 3 million Hong-Kongers residency.
Meanwhile, China has assembled its list of supporters who unashamedly back the new move.
In total, 52 countries signed a joint statement welcoming China’s new law. Cuba spoke on behalf of them at the UN Human Rights Council.
What’s interesting is that many of the countries are Muslim. It’s almost as if China is not running concentration camps for their Muslim minority, the Uyghurs.
Less surprising though are the communists as well as the desperately developing countries who rely on Chinese ‘aid’.
