Australia called “gum stuck to China’s shoe” by state media

Editor of the state-run Global Times in China has called Australia “gum stuck to China’s shoe” for planning a COVID-19 inquiry.

Hu Xijin condemned Australia for “joining the US in its attacks on China”.

The state media editor said,

After the epidemic, we need to have more risk awareness when doing business with Australia and also when we send our children to study there.
Australia is always there, making trouble. It is a bit like chewing gum stuck on the sole of China’s shoes. Sometimes you have to find a stone to rub it off.”

Hu’s insults come a day after China’s ambassador threatened severe economic consequences for launching any inquiry.

Australia’s government has so far ignored China’s threats and are moving forward with an inquiry into the source of COVID-19.
